The Associate Professional Services Engineer works closely with a team of OPOWER employees to deliver SAAS-based energy efficiency programs on behalf of utilities, including a Program Manager, a Senior Professional Services Engineer, as well as members of the software product and QA teams.
OPOWER is looking for a strategic, energetic, and highly intelligent Consumer Insights Manager to develop new consumer insights that are the key to our growing success at driving large-scale energy savings. This is an exciting opportunity to be a core part of the Consumer Marketing & Analysis team that creates and manages these marketing strategies, and is constantly testing and researching new ideas to drive ever-improving results. In this role you will lead quantitative and qualitative research to assess the effectiveness of OPOWER's programs and products. You will work with the marketing analysts, the direct and interactive marketing teams, and the user experience team to develop and pursue a research agenda that will help us understand the performance of our existing strategies and inform the development of new strategies. You will also work with the OPOWER client relationship managers and utility stakeholders as needed to pursue research efforts that involve our clients' customers.
One of the key initial projects will be to set up a longitudinal customer engagement assessment tool that can be used across our utility programs. In addition, you will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and executing research projects aimed at developing specific new consumer insights. For each research initiative, you will distill the findings into actionable insights and communicate key learnings and recommendations to colleagues at OPOWER and our utility partners. You will also be responsible for selecting and managing any vendors that support our research efforts.
This position reports to the Director, Marketing Analytics.
* BS or BA from top school.
* 5-7+ years of progressive experience in primary consumer research; experience assessing ongoing consumer relationships and engagement is a big plus.
* 3+ years managing vendors to execute consumer research cost-effectively.
* 3+ years developing integrated research plans * i.e., identifying, prioritizing, planning research initiatives.
* Experience developing research panels and/or market research online communities a plus.
* Ability and passion to operate at both strategic and tactical level * we need someone who can help set and guide our research priorities, as well as get hands dirty to execute specific projects.
* You love digging into quantitative data and are self-sufficient to create and leverage pivot tables and cross-tabs to find the hidden insights.
* Proven ability to synthesize the sometimes conflicting data available from varied sources into actionable insights: integrating quantitative and qualitative research; integrating primary and secondary research.
* Ability to draft, review and finalize the creation of surveys, moderator guides, and other research instruments to produce unbiased results that uncover the key underlying insights. Ability to moderate focus groups is a plus.

- Provide day-to-day management of multiple Linux servers.
- Maintain server and appliance software with latest bug and security fixes.
- Troubleshoot application and environment issues and ensure that system availability, performance and other services level agreements are met.
- Validate server stack in support of major operating system upgrades.
- Build upon our existing monitoring infrastructure to minimize downtime and performance issues.
- Future responsibilities may include capacity planning and providing geographic redundancy in multiple data centers.
Additional skills:
- Configure and manage highly available SQL databases. Build upon and improve existing backup and replication solutions.
- Diagnose and solve database performance and scalability issues.
- You have experience with MySQL or other relational databases, clustering and high-availability knowledge a plus.
- Provide technical leadership on network design and security.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot network, routing, and security issues.
- You have excellent working knowledge of networking protocols, routing, switching, load balancing and firewalls.
- You have 5+ years of system/network administration in support of database-driven web applications in Linux/Unix environments
- You have worked in high-availability Unix environment
- You have working knowledge in Linux, shell scripts, load balancers, network routing protocols and firewalls.
- You are able to build metrics and tools to track application and database availability performance and job status.
- You demonstrate knowledge of SaaS (on-demand environments)
- You have experience with enterprise applications, software development QA and release processes.
- You are a self-starter, with a positive attitude and willingness to work at a flexible schedule and play multiple roles in a start-up environment.
- You demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities.
